Can a tatoo be removed, and if so, how, and how much would it cost?
The tatoo in question is 30 years old and is about the size of a half-dollar coin.
Would it leave a scar?
Ya’ll are doing so well, great advice. I’m admused that you assume it’s “my” tatoo. LOL

they can probably do it with lasers nowadays. they have to be burned off. i don’t think the laser would scar much. they use it in plastic surgery to make skin look younger.
if you type “laser tattoo removal” into a search engine, you can find info for your area.
You should take a cheese grater to your tattoo and after about a couple of hours of sawing away you should be set. Glad to help!
Lazer will burn the ink and explode it out of your skin, the cost would be anywhere from 1000-5000 dollars
and yes you will have a scar
Yes, laser can remove it. It would probably cost anywhere from $400-$700. Make sure you see someone that regularly does this…a plastic surgeon would be great.
The scar won’t look as bad as the tatoo.
I believe they use laser technology, and yes it does leave a scar that looks like a mild burn scar because they have to burn the tissue several layers down.
This site has some good info on removing tattoos.
The second site tells about where you can get them removed, how much it costs, etc.
Dark ink tatoos can be removed by laser. It has to be performed by a doctor and can be painful. Sometimes the tatoo cannot be removed, even by laser. Unfortunately, unless your tatoo is gang-related, you have to pay entirely out-of-pocket (no insurance will cover this) and it can be quite expensive.
I watched a whole program on this and here’s what I learned. First many doctors are removing tattoos, but it is very expensive and its painful and most often they can not be removed entirely. Some doctors are removing “gang” tattoos for free, but sorry I don’t recall where that was. Yes, its going to scar, but if you really don’t like the
tattoo then you should go for the removal, the scar will be a reminder of your bad choice of getting it and your good sense in having it removed. Good luck, try calling a
tatoo shop, maybe they can help find someone that can remove it.
There’s the typical laser surgery to remove however there
is a new experimental treatment. It also involves lasers
but a gel is placed on the tatoo and lasers gradually
remove the tatoo painlessly and without scarring which you
would get with the typical laser. The process takes about
12 weeks(1 visit a week)and costs a couple of hundred per
visit. However this procedure is experimental and may not
be available in your area if that was the approach you
wanted to take.
I watched a program about a year ago concerning a Doctor that had developed method of removing them quite successfully with nothing showing. No fees were mentioned, it was on Oprah or a serious program. I’m sure a regular medical doctor could advise you as to this procedure. The one I saw removed on the show was about the size or yours.
I’d say the possibilities are very good of getting yours taken care of.
yes, even though with the technological advances it will leave a little of scaring and there is a chance of keloids.
price? depends where, size, colors and techniques used; however, i would say $350 and up
You may have some chance of it being at least lightened, if not removed. It can take many treatments. It is painful. Scarring depends on the tattoo and how many treatments are needed to eliminate it, as well as the doctors skill.
My daughter had second thoughts about tattoos after she had some small ones, and went through the process of having them removed. She said after each laser treatment she was extremely exhausted like after a really bad sunburn. The tattoos were maybe nickle sized and smaller.
There are a few different ways that tattoos are removed,
Dermabrasion, where skin is “sanded” to remove the surface and middle layers
Cryosurgery, where the area is frozen prior to its removal
Excision, where the dermatologic surgeon removes the tattoo with a scalpel and closes the wound with stitches
Lasers, have become the standard treatment for tattoo removal because they offer a bloodless, low risk, effective alternative with minimal side effects.
They are much more expensive to remove then have put on, I have a friend that went with the laser option a small little flower above her breast and 4 visits later, it is slightly visible if you a know where it was, but looks good, it took her about 650 CDN to have it removed, but she is happier not having it. A lot of the cost depends on the size, colour used, blues, reds and blacks take longer, they are deeper in the skin. Also the location of where they are tattoos that see the sun, generally fade from the UV (my case, half is lighter then the other, where one side never sees the sun). Also another determining factor is how well you heal.
They will all generally leave a scar but there are alot of products out now for scars: Sudden Change does one that you apply, Poly-sporin also has one for scars check out the pharmacy where you would find the first aid stuf: antibiotics (Ozonol, Poly-sporin, band aids etc. They work quite well. Because it’s so old you may have a better chance at removal, the inks they used then were not as synthetic as today.
Good Luck!
of course they’re going to assume its your tattoo if you asked the question o_O
it takes many, many visits to get it laser removed, but apparently it never removes it all the way, and there will be a scar.

ya and it will hurt
